Coufal was sent off against the Gunners for two yellow cards. His second yellow card was as a result of the foul on Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette in the box. At the time of his sending off, Arsenal were leading thanks to the strike from Brazilian star Gabriel Martinelli at the start of the second half. Lacazette stepped up to missthe spot kick conceded by Coufal. In the end, hosts Arsenal wrapped up the 2-0 win over West Ham United thanks to the second goal from Emile Smith-Rowe three minutes from time. The two-cap England international scored shortly after he came off the Arsenal bench.

The result from the game ensured that Arsenal leapfrogged West Ham United into the Premier League top four. The Gunners have since moved four points clear of West Ham United in fifth place after the 4-1 away win over Leeds United on Saturday night as the Hammers’ clash with Norwich City at home was  postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak in the Canaries’ camp.

West Ham United have been impressive in the last two rounds of the Carabao Cup and they would be hoping to maintain the same form when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday. The Hammers were responsible for the exit of Manchester United from the competition via a 1-0 away win in the third round with Argentine international Manuel Lanzini netting the only goal of the game. West Ham also eliminated holders Manchester City in the fourth round thanks to their penalty shootout win at home after they played out a goalless draw at theend of regulation time.
